New Gen is HYPEBEAST Music’s quarterly series highlighting some of the most promising up-and-coming voices in the music game. The editorial team approached me to illustrate their lineup of Spring 2019 artists. There were 16 artists in total with a short deadline, so I kept it simple and minimal.
NewGen is HYPEBEAST Music's quarterly pick of the artists worth knowing before everyone knows them. The editorial team in London ran the series and commissioned the portraits.
Fifteen artists, one illustration each.
I drew the set on iPad. With that many portraits and that little time I kept it simple and minimal, and put the effort into consistency rather than into making any single portrait clever. Fifteen faces should read as one series, not fifteen separate jobs.
The lineup was Sudan Archives, 22Gz, MemoTheMafioso, Channel Tres, Black Pumas, Bakar, Tay Iwar, Benjamin Earl Turner, Keyon Christ, Rio Da Yung OG, Orion Sun, MAVI, Cassowary, Kaiit and Money Marr.
